Innovative application: Ultra-high molecular weight polysiloxane for LSZH cable compounds

In recent years, urbanization process is accelerating here in China, with the increasing voltage levels and expanding scale of the power grid. As a result, the proportion of cables used in distribution networks is rising, which in turn drives the demands for silicone products in cables. Meanwhile, it promotes continuous improvement and upgrades to these products. 


It is an urgent need to develop innovative silicone materials that can solve common issues in cable production, such as die drool, inferior surface of cable materials, slow line speed, and etc.


Ultra-high molecular weight silicone


To address the widespread concern in the cable industry and meet customer requirements, Javachem has developed a new UHMW polysiloxane, offering a cost-effective solution for low smoke halogen-free cable materials.


Ultra-high molecular weight silicone Javachem"RH, with even higher molecular weight(Up to 100-150w),achieves excellent lubrication and wear-resistant effects through the outstanding spreadability of its siliconeultra-long flexible chain segments, effectively eliminating resin buildup in the mold cavity.


Die drool reduction


For low smoke halogen-free materials, a large amount of inorganic flame retardants such as aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are added, which makes the cable extrusion difficult. Low molecular lubricant is easy to be adsorbed onto the die surface under high temperature, and the higher shear force of the extruder screw on halogen-free materials can lead to die drool.

Javachem®RH 1003 which is dihydroxyl-terminated has a very higher molecular weight (up to 100-150W), it brings lubrication effects and effectively eliminates die drool.


 Cable surface improvement


A high proportion of fillers can also have a certain impact on the cable appearance. During the handling, whether by manual or machine transport, there can be scratches on cable surface. Scratch is also commonly seen during use.

Javachem®RH provides excellent wear resistance for cable materials.

Javachem®RH-1003 exhibits lower abrasion, a smoother cablesurface, and flawless quality


Compared to low molecular lubricants, Javachem®RH based on ultra high molecular weight is less likely to extrude to the surface of the cable. It is less prone to oil exudation or dust absorption, and does not affect the later printing of cables, which significantly improves cable appearance.

Line speed enhancement


During the cable production process, the line speed determines the processing efficiency and product for lubrication is required.


Unlike vinyl-terminated based products, Javachem®RH is hydroxyl-terminated and exhibits balanced internal and external lubrication. It effectively improves rheological properties of the filled system as well as significantly reduces the extrusion torque.


Meanwhile the strong polarity of the hydroxyl group not only allows good adhesion to metal, forming a lubricating layer on the machine wall to increase the line speed, but also imparts good compatibility with inorganic flame retardants such as magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide, effectively improving dispersion and comprehensive performance of the material.
